Colorado's coffee scene in brief

Colorado coffee is roasted all over the state, not only in Denver. The Roast Local directory lists 156 independent roasters in Colorado (September 2026). Denver has the most filed under it, followed by Colorado Springs and Boulder, but roasters also work out of ski towns, mountain valleys and a Main Street in the Wet Mountain Valley.

The roasters we keep profiles on sit in these towns: Denver, Lakewood and Englewood in the metro; Boulder; Fort Collins and Loveland to the north; Colorado Springs and Westcliffe to the south; Eagle in the Vail Valley; Crested Butte; and Durango. The dates below come from each roaster's own pages and press coverage, as summarized on our roaster profiles (checked 2026-09-27).

A few notes on the dates. Camp 4's owner has served coffee in Crested Butte since 1993; Conscious Coffees' founders owned a roaster by 1996; Peregrine started in Kathmandu, Nepal, before moving to Colorado. Bindle Coffee in Fort Collins does not publish a founding year.

Colorado's coffee regions

Denver suburbs and foothills

Around the city itself, roasters work out of Golden, Arvada, Westminster, Wheat Ridge, Centennial, Castle Rock, Parker, Commerce City and Northglenn, and several Denver roasters run suburban cafes. Denver, Aurora and Lakewood have their own pages. Roasters in the Denver suburbs and foothills.

Boulder County

Boulder anchors it, with Longmont and Louisville close behind, and Lafayette, Nederland and Gunbarrel have roasters too. The county leans toward organic and Fair Trade lineups. Roasters in Boulder County.

Northern Front Range

Fort Collins and Loveland carry most of the roasting, with Greeley, Frederick, Fort Morgan and Estes Park in the mix. Roasters on the northern Front Range.

Pikes Peak and the southern Front Range

Colorado Springs is the center, Pueblo is the southern end, and Woodland Park, Canon City, Monument, Black Forest and Westcliffe fill in around them. Roasters around Pikes Peak.

I-70 mountain towns and high country

Eagle, Breckenridge, Frisco, Keystone, Minturn, Basalt, Dumont and the Grand County towns of Granby, Fraser and Winter Park, plus Steamboat Springs to the north. Roasters in the high country.

Western Slope

Grand Junction has the biggest cluster, and roasters also work in Montrose, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Paonia, Delta and smaller towns from Meeker to Lake City. Roasters on the Western Slope.

Southwest Colorado and the San Luis Valley
