OZO Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Boulder, founded in 2007. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Justin Hartman founded OZO Coffee in Boulder in 2007. The company both roasts coffee and runs its own cafes. OZO says it has grown on four principles: service, quality, community and sustainability, and its stated mission is to support and connect diverse communities through coffee. It builds relationships with farmers to keep harvest practices consistent, and many of its lots carry Organic, Fair Trade or Rainforest Alliance certification.
Coffee is roasted in small batches on Diedrich and Gothot roasters, with a roast profile tuned for each coffee. Customers who bring their own cup get 25 cents off every drink. OZO counts more than 42,000 disposable cups avoided in 2024 and again in 2025. Its canister refill program fills a customer's Airscape canister with a pound of coffee for the price of a 12 ounce bag, and customers completed more than 25,000 refills across 2024 and 2025.
The cafes make their own cashew and almond milk in house, which OZO says kept more than 3,200 cartons out of landfills in 2024, and they sell reusable compostable clay cups made by GaeaStar. OZO uses compostable and recyclable packaging across the business. Its dark roast, Ursa Major, was added after the company had been roasting for ten years.

Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Organic OZO Blend, Organic Breakfast Blend (light), 8th Wonder (espresso), Organic Espresso Isabelle, Ursa Major Dark Roast and Cozy Cabin (seasonal). Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala Andres Recinos Perez (2026 CODECH competition winning lot), Organic Guatemala Maria Romalda (Huehuetenango), Ethiopia Banko Gotiti (Yirgacheffe), Colombia Tolima and Organic Mexico Chiapas women's lot. Two espresso blends: 8th Wonder, fruit forward, and Organic Espresso Isabelle, heavy and chocolaty. Organic Decaf Blend, decaffeinated by Swiss Water without chemicals. OZO runs cafes in Boulder and Longmont open to the public, including a weekday-only spot at its Flatiron Court base.
