Longmont's coffee story
The earliest start date in this group is in Lafayette. OTIS has roasted there since 2012, when it began as Proper Grounds Coffee Roasters. The new name honors Otis, a co-owner's grandfather from Conway, Arkansas, who, the owners admit, drank Folgers.
Traction came out of a conversation after a mountain bike ride. Mike Murfitt grew up in Longmont, came to coffee from BMX, and made it his career in 2015. The partners bought a San Franciscan roaster and started in Lyons in 2018. In January 2025 the Times-Call reported that the company had moved near downtown Longmont and ships to more than 30 countries. Murfitt told the paper: "We are Longmont's coffee roaster."
Both Longmont roasters sell around town. Traction's beans turn up at Juniper Goods, Pistachio Cafe Bakery and The Roost. resQ is poured at Brickscape Cafe, Parkway Food Hall and a cafe at Front Range Community College.

How we chose these roasters
Every roaster here roasts in Colorado and was operating when we read its own site, on the date its card shows (the list itself was last checked 2026-09-27). Facts come from each roaster's own pages, written in our words; we take nothing from reviews and show no ratings. No roaster pays to be listed, and a listing does not mean the roaster is part of the club. Run a roaster here and something is off? Email coffee@fourteenercoffeeclub.com and we correct or remove the page.
