Lakewood's coffee story

Sweet Bloom arrived with a competition record. Andy Sprenger started it in 2013. He holds two U.S. Brewers Cup titles and finished runner-up at the World Brewers Cup. Before coffee he worked on wetland conservation in Lebanon, then joined Ceremony Coffee in Maryland as a barista and worked up to roaster before moving back to Colorado.

In 2026 the Global Coffee Awards named Sweet Bloom the best roaster in the US and Canada.

Garden Coffee Co. is a family story. John and Delmy Mattos started it in 2017, and Delmy is a Honduran native.

The US Census Bureau counted 156,927 people in Lakewood in its July 2025 estimate.
