Huckleberry Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Denver, founded in 2011. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Huckleberry Roasters was founded in Denver in 2011 around the idea that good coffee pulls good people together. Co-founders Koan Goedman and Mark Mann first met at a Denver specialty cafe, where Goedman was behind the bar and Mann was a regular, and reconnected years later when both wanted to start a business. The two have said a shared fondness for the band The Shins helped bring them together.
Roast magazine named Huckleberry its Macro Roaster of the Year for 2022. At the time the company was roasting more than 240,000 pounds of coffee a year and selling wholesale nationally. Its head roaster Shelby Williamson won the U.S. Roaster Championship in 2019. The company calls itself a people company first and describes its partnerships with smallholder farms and cooperatives as long-term relationships on fair terms.
Its longest-running and most hands-on producer relationship is with the APROCAFE growers near Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, whose coffee it still sells as a single origin. Huckleberry supports local and global nonprofits, with a focus on groups that serve underserved people inside and outside coffee. From its first cafe the company has grown to eight Denver area cafes, a mobile ordering app and a wholesale program.

House blends include Phantom Limb, Sound & Vision, Blue Orchid, Civitas, Bom Senso Dark Roast, Flores Belas and HUCK x Red Rocks Sound Check Blend.
