Coffee around Pikes Peak
In the southern Front Range, coffee roasting centers on Colorado Springs and runs down to Pueblo and west into the mountains. The smaller towns count too: Woodland Park, Canon City, Monument and Black Forest all have roasters on the Roast Local directory, and Westcliffe has Peregrine. Fourteener Coffee Club sends a bag from a different independent Colorado roaster in every box, and every member's first box is named for Pikes Peak.
The region's coffee story
Peregrine Coffee Roasters took the longest road here. Founder Stephen Holmes started it in 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal, roasting in 1 kilo batches in a small roastery where his family became part of the neighborhood. The company is now based in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and from 2018 its whole operation fit in a Westcliffe cafe of about 600 square feet that started life as a chicken house.
The name comes from the peregrine falcon, picked for its precision and endurance over long distances. Peregrine has bought from the same Burundi farmer for eight years. It has since opened a second cafe in Richardson, Texas, while the roasting stays in Colorado.
In Colorado Springs, Mission Coffee Roasters was founded by the Bixler family in 2003 to fund Christian missionaries.
Westcliffe is a small place, and a roastery there depends on people choosing its coffee. When a Wet Mountain Valley roaster gets paid, the money stays in the valley.

Loyal Coffee describes itself as barista built. Switchback Coffee Roasters installed a 12 kilo Probat drum roaster in March 2015 and now roasts in its own warehouse with a training space. Peregrine Coffee Roasters, 610 Main Street. The Main Street cafe is open to the public, and the roastery welcomes guests who stop by during a roast or a cupping. Its lineup runs from single origins such as an Ethiopia Guji Kercha Natural and a Peru Gesha to a barrel-aged coffee, Colomba's Cask, and a Peregrine Gold reserve line in 6 oz tins (checked 2026-09-27).
