Englewood

• Kaladi Coffee Roasters, South Broadway. It roasts in a fluid bed with hot air, the method the engineer Michael Sivetz worked out, and its Awaken Community line uses coffee grown only on women-owned farms.
• Elevation Coffee Traders, South Tejon Street. Mostly a supplier to cafes, restaurants and offices, it roasts on two rebuilt Roure drum roasters from Barcelona, one holding 30 kilos and the other 70.
• Vellichor Coffee Roasters, West Thomas Avenue. Roasting happens Monday and Thursday mornings on a San Franciscan SF-25, about 18 pounds of green coffee a batch.
• Mango Tree Coffee, South Broadway. Every dollar of proceeds goes to food and education projects for children in poverty.

Littleton

Garden Coffee buys straight from about a dozen family farms in Honduras, which John and Delmy Mattos visit every year, and roasts to order in Littleton.

Greenwood Village

Moonrise Coffee Roasters runs its DTC cafe here and a second one on Santa Fe in Denver. Its Ohana Blend is half Maui coffee.

Highlands Ranch

Lost Coffee roasts at its Springer Drive cafe and runs six cafes in all. Cosmic Dog Coffee Roasters air roasts micro batches only after an order comes in, and local buyers can pick up instead of paying for shipping.

Englewood's coffee story

The longest record here belongs to Elevation Coffee Traders, which has roasted in Colorado since 1993 and has supplied Denver area businesses for more than three decades. New owners took over in 2023. They rebuilt the old roasters rather than scrap them.

Kaladi came in 2000. Mark Overly and Andrew Melnick wanted back the quality they felt specialty coffee had lost to chain store thinking. They opened first on East Evans Avenue in Denver, and the roasting later settled at the Englewood Roastery Cafe. The name comes from Kaldi, the goat herder of coffee folklore.

The younger roasters started small. Lost Coffee was a food truck in 2010 and had a shop within about a year. Vellichor's owners bought a Golden coffee shop they found on Craigslist in 2012, started roasting in 2021, and split the roastery off on its own in 2024. Cosmic Dog opened in June 2021.
