Coffee on the northern Front Range
North of Boulder County, roasting follows the towns along I-25 and out onto the plains. Fort Collins and Estes Park have pages of their own. This one covers the rest: Loveland, where Dark Heart started as a handbuilt coffee cart downtown, plus Greeley, Frederick and Fort Morgan. The northern Front Range's coffee story
Dark Heart Coffee took about ten years of planning and a few hard setbacks. It started in March 2015 as a handbuilt mobile coffee cart on the streets of downtown Loveland. The cart served around 100 events in town while the owners looked for a permanent home, and the brick and mortar Dark Heart Coffee Bar opened in June 2017 on North Jefferson Avenue.
In Fort Collins, Wander Coffee opened its roastery in November 2016.
Roasters from next door reach these towns too. Boulder's Conscious Coffees is poured at Earle's Coffee in Loveland and sold at Whole Foods in Fort Collins.
Dark Heart's cart years show what support local means in practice: the cart worked around 100 Loveland events before the shop could open. A roaster starts and survives on its neighbors buying the coffee. More on that on why local roasters matter.
