Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Lakewood, founded in 2013. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Andy Sprenger founded Sweet Bloom in Lakewood in 2013. Before coffee, Sprenger worked on wetland conservation in Lebanon. He then joined Ceremony Coffee in Maryland as a barista and worked his way up to roaster before moving back to Colorado. Sprenger has won the U.S. Brewers Cup twice, finished second at the World Brewers Cup, won the 2013 U.S. AeroPress Championship and placed second in the 2014 U.S. Cup Tasters Championship.
In 2019 Sweet Bloom combined with Two Rivers Coffee, which Eric Yochim had opened in Arvada in 2010, and the two businesses continued under the Sweet Bloom name with Yochim as co-owner. Yochim came to coffee from fine dining and hospitality, and the two owners were friends before they became partners. Sweet Bloom buys smaller, recently harvested lots and expects each to taste its best for about one to three months, so the menu changes with the harvest seasons around the world.
Most of its single origins are sold under the name of the individual producer, such as growers in Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Kenya, Mexico and Costa Rica. The company gives 1 percent of its sales to the communities where its team lives and works and where its coffee is grown.

House blends include Hometown Blend and Uraga. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia (several producer lots, for example Danche, Hambela, Bekele Kechara), Colombia (for example Jorge Rojas, Herman Salazar, Los Naranjos), Guatemala (Antonio Medina, Augusto Castillo, Aurelio Villatoro), Kenya Embu, Peru (Alejandro Padilla, Lito Cubas, La Danta), Mexico (Familia Marin, Flor de Corazon), Costa Rica Jhonny Alvarado, Burundi Campazi and Rwanda Hirwa.
