Village Roaster is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Lakewood, founded in 1979. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The business dates to 1979 and has three Denver metro locations, including a hospital coffee shop and an event concession. About 31 coffees are roasted through the week, and any of them can be bought as green beans for home roasting. The roastery reports importing and roasting about 4,000 pounds of coffee a month from Africa, Asia, Indonesia, Central and South America and Hawaii.
Its trade customers range from offices and cafes to churches, and it also offers toll roasting, roaster rental and green coffee sales. Beyond coffee, the online shop carries loose leaf teas, herbs and spices from many countries, bulk candy and brewing equipment.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, light-medium, medium, medium-dark and dark. House blends include Mocha Java, Scandinavian Blend, Village Blend and Kona Blend (10% Kona). Single origins on the list when we checked: Kenya AB, Ethiopia Guji, Guatemala, Tanzania Peaberry, Sulawesi, Papua New Guinea, Mexico Chiapas, Java Organic, Honduras, Colombia, Costa Rica and Brazil. Espresso: Vienna Espresso Blend, French Espresso. Sumatra Mandheling Decaf, Dark Roast Decaf, Scandinavian Decaf. Why buying from Village Roaster matters here
West metro businesses on a regular delivery schedule can have wholesale orders of 30 pounds or more brought to them, and other orders ship. For events around Denver the company provides catering and a mobile espresso bar, and it runs an event concession at 470 South Allison Parkway in Lakewood. One of its most popular coffees, the Sumatra Dark Roast, comes from farmer Irham Janus in Aceh, whose family processes it at their own mill using the Giling Basah wet hulled method.
