Mission Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Colorado Springs, founded in 2003. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The Bixler family founded Mission in 2003, though the idea dates to 1991. Coffee sales were meant to fund Christian missionaries, ministries and other nonprofits. Brett Bixler's coffee career began in 1991 in Southern California, where he learned the trade at Diedrich Coffee from Martin Diedrich and Don Holly. Bixler created the Artist Blend, whose bags feature work by more than 75 artists. It was stocked at the Baltimore Museum of Art during an Andy Warhol exhibit.
The company says Artist Blend, a medium to medium dark roast, was its top seller at East Coast Whole Foods stores for more than eight years. The company drives a 1971 VW Bus for shop errands and deliveries, and a VW Bus Blend mixes dark roasted Honduran with medium roasted Mexican Chiapas. Beyond retail bags, Mission supplies wholesale and office coffee, brewers, staff training and complete coffeehouse setups.

The cafe opens weekdays 6 am to 5 pm and Saturday mornings, with phone orders, to-go and curbside pickup.
