Story Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Colorado Springs. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Don and Carissa Niemyer met in 2002 at a coffee shop in Dallas's Deep Ellum district where she was the barista, and they married seven months later. In 2006 they moved to Portland, Oregon, bought a coffee kiosk and later two more shops. They also judged barista competitions around the country. After selling the Portland shops they lived with their two daughters in a small Volkswagen Rialta RV for almost four years, visiting over 200 coffee shops in 45 states and writing for Barista Magazine.
With help from friends Brandon and Kelly, Don built a tiny house coffee shop that customers could walk into, which the couple believe was the first of its kind. The tiny shop first opened in downtown Acacia Park, moved beside the park's historic band shell in March 2016, and began roasting its own coffee for other businesses that November.
