Top of the Lake Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Berthoud. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Alex Velasco and Brent Bromstrup founded the company to work with growers, schools and small businesses around San Juan la Laguna on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Gus Aguirre took over as owner in 2023 when Brent Bromstrup retired. Coffee is roasted in small batches in Berthoud. Its Greater Good fund lends, and at times donates, money or resources so partners in San Juan la Laguna can start or keep projects going, including the Colegio Nuevo Amanacer school.
La Voz, one of its Guatemalan coffees, comes from a Western Highlands cooperative whose members each farm one to two hectares under a canopy of native shade trees. Wholesale customers range from churches and offices to cafes, with equipment and staff training available, and nonprofits can raise money by selling its coffee.

House blends include Coati Blend, Casa Flor Ixcaco Dark Blend and Valor Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: La Voz and Oaxaca Mixteca. Decaf: Guatemalan Swiss Water Process Decaf. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
