Their story

Locally owned, the group says it plans to stay that way while serving Western Slope towns from its Montrose base. Most beans go into house blends, while standout lots are roasted on their own as single origins, such as a Zongolica micro lot from Veracruz. Trader Blend was the company's first blend, created more than 20 years ago, and is a dark roast built from African, Asian and American coffees.

Mountain Splendor, another original blend of similar age, combines East African with Central and South American beans at a medium Viennese roast. For Black and Tan, one Central and South American blend is roasted twice, once dark and once light medium, and the two batches are mixed half and half. Guatemala Sunrise is now made only from Guatemalan beans, after years in which the company blended in coffee from neighboring Central American countries.

What they roast

Roast levels run light, medium and Italian. House blends include Trader Blend, Mountain Splendor, Daybreak Blend, Tuscan Blend and Black and Tan. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Washed, Mexico Zongolica and Guatemala Sunrise. Decaf: Swiss Water Process Decaf.
