Salto Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Nederland, founded in 2012. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The women-owned roaster was founded in 2012 and keeps its roasting base in Nederland at about 8,200 feet. Owner Karina Luscher looks for beans from women's cooperatives and growers using earth-friendly methods. Rob Langone handles roasting. Roasting happens every Monday, and online orders have a Sunday night cutoff to make that week's batch.
The Colombia Tolima Organic is bought from ASOPEP, a Planadas grower association whose 168 member families farm coffee in the region. A collaboration blend is made with Ranchlands, a company that runs large cattle and bison operations across the western United States paired with conservation work. Outside the foothills, Salto is poured at Moxie Bread in Louisville, Otherside Gear and Coffee Shop in Grand Lake and Sunshine Coffee, a zero waste shop in Laramie, Wyoming.

House blends include Magnus Blend, Gypsy, Hero Dirt and Salto + Ranchlands Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia Tolima Organic, Mexico FTO Chiapas Women's Co-op and La Choza Colombia. A decaf is on the list. The Rollinsville cafe sits inside Howling Wind Brewery and serves the Salto espresso blend, Gypsy filter coffee, decaf and pastries including Gold Hill cookies. The first Salto Cafe space in Nederland is now the Nederland General Store, which still brews the coffee and sells retail bags.
Every bag bought from a Nederland roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Colorado, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
