Octopus Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Grand Junction, founded in 2013. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Octopus started in September 2013 as a kiosk beside Highway 50 in Orchard Mesa, serving customers through a drive-thru and a walk-up window. A small cafe on Horizon Drive opened in February 2015 with its own bakery, and a Crested Butte shop opened in 2018 but closed during Covid. Around 2018 the company started roasting its own coffee.
The Grand Junction cafe closed on April 13, 2025, and roasted coffee is still sold online for shipping. The Horizon Drive cafe was a 900 square foot shop near the I-70 off ramp, with a kitchen big enough for an in-house bakery, and it became known for breakfast burritos. Its bakers turned out scones, frosted sweet rolls, cookies and sweet breads from scratch, with organic flour, eggs and sugar.
The online store still ships blends such as Gemini, Midnight Walk and the Draco French roast, along with an Octopus House Chai mix and a roaster's choice gift pack.

Roast levels run light, medium, dark and French. House blends include Gemini Blend, Draco Blend, Midnight Walk and Fireside Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Mexico Veracruz Finca Fatima, West Java, Nicaragua Gesha and Ethiopia Sidamo. Espresso: Bangs Canyon Espresso Blend. Decaf: Octopus Decaf Blend (Swiss Water or sugarcane). Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
