Wendll's White River Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Meeker, founded in 2021. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Wendll's has been part of Meeker since 1994. To start the valley's first commercial roaster, it teamed up with Mitch Bettis, who once owned the local Rio Blanco Herald Times newspaper. The roaster sits inside the coffee shop and air roasts beans from seven countries into single origins and blends. Wendy Gutierrez opened Wendll's in 1994 as a women's dress shop. She married Bobby in 2005, the couple added a coffee shop in 2008 and moved it to its present home in 2014.
Bettis, a longtime friend of the couple, came in as an angel partner in 2021 to launch the roasting business. Other local businesses can sign on as partners and have the shop roast a custom coffee for them.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include White River Blend, Cowboy Coffee Blend and Flat Tops Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil and Colombia. Decaf: Swiss Water Decaf. Why buying from Wendll's White River Roasters matters here
Sports teams and clubs can sell the coffee to raise money for trips and projects. Groups pick their own bag price and pay the roaster $10 per bag, and the roaster adds 25 donated bags whose profit is meant to reward the top sellers. The owners credit fresh Colorado air and filtered mountain water for a smoother, less acidic cup, and the shop sells shirts bearing the town motto Meeker is Uniquer.
Every bag bought from a Meeker roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Colorado, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
