The Coffee Ride is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Boulder, founded in 2014. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Josh Crane grew up outside Milwaukee hearing about his grandfather Jerry, who delivered milk for Borden's dairy in the 1950s. That early morning delivery routine inspired the business. Crane began by bringing coffee he roasted at home into his office and brewing a Chemex each morning, which turned into a daily gathering of co-workers. The company roasted in a garage when it started in 2014. It has since moved into a dedicated roastery with a new roaster and added staff for deliveries.
Its green coffee comes through a Seattle importer that buys directly from small growing communities, and the roaster recycles the plastic liners that green coffee ships in.
What they roast
House blends include The Golden Ticket, That's My Jam, Leaf Peep'n, Better Biking Blend and In Tandem. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Organic Sidama Ayla Bombe, Nicaragua Geisha, La Bastilla, Ethiopia Guji Danbi Udo, Uganda Rwenzori Kasese, Colombia Huila Palestina Pink Bourbon and Peru Warmikuna. Why buying from The Coffee Ride matters here
Orders are roasted on Wednesday and delivered by bicycle on Thursday anywhere in Boulder and Gunbarrel. The team says it has ridden over 26,000 miles on delivery days in 11 years. Chaff, used grounds and event waste go to 63rd St Farms in Boulder for composting, and the retail bags were designed with advice from CU Boulder's sustainability staff. Custom coffees are roasted for local groups such as KUNC radio and People for Bikes. Visitors to the roastery cafe, in an industrial area near the bike path, can watch where the coffee is roasted and order house-made biscuits or banana bread.
Every bag bought from a Boulder roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Colorado, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
