STEEP Coffee Roastery is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Pagosa Springs. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
A family business, the roastery set out to give its hometown of Pagosa Springs its own local roaster in the San Juan Mountains. According to the company, the idea for STEEP took shape at the start of a volcano trail run in Antigua, Guatemala, so its Guatemala Antigua is called Trailhead. Other coffees carry mountain names too: Timberline is a honey processed Costa Rica, Ridgeline a dark Kenya AA and Summit a dark Sumatra from the Sumbul region.
Traverse is a ground Sumatra with electrolytes mixed in, and the roastery also sells single serve K-Cups and personal pour-over packs meant for camping and road trips. Coffee shops can order custom roasts in 6 pound bags after a consultation, and the espresso blend combines Colombian, Brazilian and Kenyan beans.

Roast levels run medium, medium dark and dark. House blends include Espresso Coffee Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Trailhead (Guatemala Antigua), Timberline (Costa Rica Tarrazu), Ridgeline (Kenya AA Guama), Single Track (Brazil Cerrado), Summit (Indonesia Sumatra) and Traverse (Indonesia Sumatra). Espresso: Espresso Coffee Blend (Colombia, Brazil, Kenya). Decaf: Foothills Decaf (Mexico Mountain), Foothills Half Caf.
