Little Owl Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Denver. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Little Owl says it cares as much about service as about coffee quality, and it treats a good experience at the counter as part of how a cup tastes. Its Penrose blend honors Dustin Fuchtman, whose short-lived Denver company Penrose was an early specialty coffee pioneer and a guiding influence on Little Owl. Penrose is built mainly for espresso, with 70 percent washed Guatemala and 30 percent washed Mexico. Mexico replaced Brazil in the blend after climate, tariffs and supply problems.
For subscribers the roaster picks a new single origin every month, in either an approachable style or a fruitier, more unusual one. This is its second year buying from Stuardo Coto of Finca el Platanillo in Guatemala, a farm the roaster notes for its sustainability work and varietal research.

Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Ayla Bombe Natural, Nensebo, Ethiopia, Stuardo Coto, Guatemala, La Unica, Honduras, Guatemala Chacaya Washed and Guatemala Finca San Ignacio. The company runs four Denver cafes, called Lohi, Blake Street, Tremont and Populus. Populus is open every day, and the others keep weekday hours. Rare lots sometimes come in 6 ounce cans, such as an anaerobic natural from Costa Rican grower Carlos Fernandez Morera.
