Sonder Coffee & Tea is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Denver, founded in 2016. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Three friends opened the shop in 2016. They roast small batches of their own coffee and serve it next to loose leaf teas and local pastries. The name comes from a word for realizing that every stranger has a life as full as your own, a definition printed on the home page. Online coffee orders go out once a week on Wednesdays, shipping on the first ship day after the order is placed.
There are no direct phone lines to either shop; the contact page asks customers to send a text instead, and the rewards program runs only at the Iliff location. Its instant espresso is made from a washed Guatemala lot from Finca La Hermosa in Acatenango, pooled from 52 small growers who use the farm's wet mill. That lot comes through the importer Collaborative Imports, and the product page says the beans are hand roasted by the team in Denver.

Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia Las Flores Pink Bourbon, Guatemala La Montana, Colombia Quebraditas, Guatemala Lote Collectivo Hoja Blanca, Ethiopia Gidey Hagos and Guatemala La Hermosa Organic. The second bar sits inside Junction Food and Drink, the food hall at Colorado Center on South Colorado Boulevard, where the seasonal menu has featured a honey lavender latte. For offices and gatherings, the online store offers hot coffee for events and meetings, sized to serve groups of 8 to 16 people. The website posts its own brewing guides for espresso, the Hario V60, the Kalita Wave and the AeroPress.
Every bag bought from a Denver roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Colorado, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
