Copper Door Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Denver, founded in 2006. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Sinjin Eberle founded Copper Door in 2006. For its first eight years it was a wholesale-only business roasting out of a garage. Hannah Ulbrich, a former barista and cafe manager, took over in 2014 and expanded the company into four cafes in Denver and Littleton. Copper Door calls itself Denver's only roaster that is fully owned by women, and its wholesale mission includes building demand for coffee from women producers.
Ulbrich, who holds a master's in education, helped create a CU Boulder course on the engineering of coffee roasting and has judged coffee competitions. Atlas Coffee Importers invited her to Brazil to judge a cooperative competition, and she was named to the executive council of the Rocky Mountain Craft Coffee Alliance. The company says its flagship espresso, Porta Aperta, has topped its sales for roughly a decade.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Shady Lady Blend and Midnight Mama. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Tarrazu, Guatemala Huehuetenango, Brazil Nascentes and Rwanda. Espresso: Four Sisters Espresso; Porta Aperta Espresso Blend. Its four cafes are open daily; the roastery itself has no listed visiting hours.
