Big Iron Coffee Co is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Colorado: an independent roaster based in Steamboat Springs, founded in 2017. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Bowen and Nina Rodkey started the company to bring quality coffee to Steamboat Springs. A 10 kg Proaster supplies their shops and local businesses. Green coffee comes through importers such as Sucafina and Royal Coffee, and all of it is organic and Fair Trade certified. The company has roasted since 2017 and gives its shop a Western and heavy metal theme, saying it roasts with metal music playing.
Bowen prefers small batch light roasts, but he built the Stampede Blend and Black Meridian for customers who like their coffee darker. The owners say they hope to grow enough to buy green coffee directly from a farm one day. The company recently added a mobile coffee cart so it can serve drinks at catered events.
